CASE STUDY

☀️ Case Study: Clacton Shopping Village Summer Series

A Month of Olympic-Inspired Family Fun on the Essex Coast

🎯 Client Objective

Clacton Shopping Village wanted to activate its outdoor space during the summer holidays by offering free, engaging, and educational events that would appeal to visiting families. The focus was to provide high-quality, return-worthy programming that built footfall and created lasting community connections — all under the umbrella of the upcoming Paris 2024 Olympics.

💡 Our Creative Approach

We curated a four-week themed series that blended sport, science, culture, and creativity. Each Wednesday throughout August featured a unique sub-theme, designed to take families on a journey through time, geography, and imagination — all while encouraging participation and play.

Punch & Judy performance with bilingual flavour
A visual and interactive build-up to the Clacton Airshow the following day

🚧 Event Challenges
Delivering weekly themed experiences over four weeks meant juggling storage, setup, staffing, and consistency, especially under variable summer weather. Content also had to remain fresh and engaging for repeat visitors, while keeping logistics tight and vendor load-in minimal.

🛠️ Our Solution

Anopia provided full end-to-end creative and delivery, including:

Custom activity and decor design for each week, building thematic continuity with layered visual and tactile engagement.
Staff coordination across setup, live execution, and pack-down — ensuring consistency in guest experience.
Creative production and crafting stations that combined education, movement, and creativity, appealing to a broad age range.

📊 Results & Impact

Consistent footfall across all four weeks — with some families returning multiple times.
Strong feedback from both parents and children, praising the mix of fun and hands-on learning.
Heightened awareness and positive perception of Clacton Shopping Village as a community-focused destination.

“We came back every week, there was always something new and exciting for the kids to do.”

“The Olympic theme was genius, it gave the summer structure and made it feel like something bigger.”

🎥 Lasting Memories
The final event video showcases families arriving under festive lights, children deep in conversation with Santa, and the joyful bustle of the grotto, wrapping the experience in a sense of wonder and warmth that resonated far beyond the day itself.

📈 Ongoing Value
The Summer Series established a strong seasonal framework for Clacton Shopping Village’s calendar, setting a precedent for educational activations with a cultural twist. It also provided a template that can evolve year-on-year, aligned with major moments like Paris 2024 and beyond.
