The brief was to deliver a memorable, high-quality grotto experience that would engage families, attract regional visitors, and support local charities — all while keeping accessibility and atmosphere at the heart.

We transformed the outdoor space at Clacton Shopping Village into a picture-perfect Christmas grotto, staged across three festive weekends. Built inside a bespoke chalet and styled with nostalgic warmth, the experience was designed to feel like stepping into Santa’s front room — complete with a throne, fireplace, soft lighting, and personal touches throughout.

 

Experience Highlights:
🏠 Custom Chalet Structure designed for long-weekend use, with full access considerations and weatherproof signage.
🎅 Santa’s Living Room interior, including a traditional red-and-gold throne, fireplace, vintage sleigh, festoon lighting, and hessian letter ceiling installation.
🎁 Personalised Gift Programme offering age-appropriate presents from books to art kits — with options for pre-booked and walk-in guests.
📸 Photo Opportunity Zones with trees, signage props, and rope barriers for those Instagram-worthy family shots.
💡 Internal Uplighting to bring a gentle glow and warmth throughout the space.

🚧 Event Challenges
With the event spread across three weekends in December, we had to manage logistics, weather resilience, and multi-day staff coordination. The outdoor setting required a detailed power-free design, and guest flow had to accommodate both pre-booked and spontaneous visitors without compromising the quality of the experience.
